What is a Math Talk?
All of the students are required to participate in mathematical discourse in the form of a "math talk." Instead of looking for the one and only solution, the students share their knowledge and understanding of what processes are involved to reach an answer. The class, as a whole, develops a sense of belonging to a learning community. What you know, why you know it, and how you know it become equally important. Without reaching for the calculator, the students are required to think about their own answer, analyze one another's work, and defend their decisions.
Common Core Standards of Mathematical Practices
1. Make sense of the problems and persevere in solving them.
2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Grades
Don't forget to check the CPS Parent Portal for up-to-date grades. Don't forget the account has a 30 day shelf-life. That means you need to log on at least once every 30 days, or you will need to reregister. This means during the summer too. Your account is the same until you graduate from high school.
